Outdoor Education (10 Weeks)


Location: Mamoní Valley Preserve, Panama     

Job Description

Experience Mamoní provides unique opportunities for hands-on learning for local and international student groups at both the high school and university level. The Outdoor Education intern will assist both with groups directly and with long-term strategic planning for Experience Mamoní’s biocultural curriculum.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Outdoor education programming: assist with logistics and leading outdoor education trips in the rainforest for students groups
  • Strategic planning: Support with curriculum development for hands-on-learning ecological and culturally oriented program, including:
    • Conducting research on best practices
    • Designing and systematizing educational materials such as preparatory material for participants, workshops, and trail guides for hikes
    • Strengthening outdoor education curriculum related to group dynamics, group management, safety procedures, and personal growth

All Experience Mamoní interns are expected to hold a presentation on the results of their work for the Mamoní Valley Preserve stakeholders upon the completion of their internship.


  • Previous wilderness guide experience preferred
  • Certifications such as wilderness guide or first aid certification strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • High degree of organization and attention to detail; ability to multitask effectively
  • Flexibility and readiness to overcome unexpected challenges
  • Sense of adventure and preparedness to live in a remote location in the middle of the rainforest
  • Sense of humor and team player

Language Requirement: Intermediate/advanced Spanish preferred

Tuition: $1,300/Month

Additional information:
Some interns choose to arrive a week or more in advance to spend some time in Panama City and take a Spanish intensive course, which allows them to enrich their experience in Panama.

It is recommended that students purchase personal health and medical insurance.
